Description

I've been gaming for a long time. My first generation was the NES in the 80s and I've tried to keep up with all the latest console generations. That being said, I've got a soft spot for nostalgic retro games, especially ones that are well made. Freedom Planet was released last July and was made by a studio named Galaxy Trail. It's a side-scrolling action platformer very much designed in the style of the older Sonic the Hedgehog games. After playing a bit, I can say that it's a very well made game with some interesting characters, neat gameplay mechanics, and iconic music.

Carol Tea is one of the main characters you can play as when the game starts. She's a wildcat and best friend to the other main protagonist. In battle, Carol attacks with her claws, feet, and can pounce on her enemies. When she gets a certain power-up, she gets a motorcycle to ride on that changes how she plays. I do like her spunky mischievous personality and her gameplay style is great as well.

For the perler itself, I chose this pose of Carol crouching down and getting ready to pounce. It shows off her green color palette with her black gloves and boots. You can also see her red bandana around her neck as well. For her tail, the sprite sheets actually have her tail as a separate sprite. That's probably due to how they animated everything. I took the frame of animation and overlaid to get the final result. This is a medium-size sprite so it wasn't too hard to put together. I'm happy with the shading of the greens and the fuse was fairly consistent.

I'm going to do some more sprites from this game in the future. In the meantime go play Freedom Planet! It's awesome!
